Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Michelle Obama favorite Prabal Gurung has been named as one of the ten young fashion designers in the running for the prestigious CFDA prize that will be awarded in November.

The list of nominees also includes the newcomers Joseph Altuzarra, Billy Reid, Christian Cota, Eddie Borgo (who just released a new lookbook starring Elle's senior style editor, Kate Lanphear), Gregory Parkinson,
Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow for Loden Dager, Moss Lipow, Pamela Love, and Robert Geller.

One winner and two runner-ups will receive $200,000 and $50,000 respectively as well as professional industry mentoring after collections have been reviewed and candidates interviewed over the coming weeks. As part of the judging process, each of the designers will also create a one-of-a-kind outfit for a special initiative by designer Ann Taylor, the results of which will be unveiled in October.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America knows how to keep in touch with the younger generation: it was just announced that its massive Fashion's Night Out in New York in September will be featured on the TV drama series, Gossip Girl.
