From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In response to the hype over Kate Middleton and Prince William's recent engagement, QVC is now selling an affordable replica of her stunning engagement ring.

The real royal bauble, which was worn by the former Princess Diana after becoming engaged to Prince Charles in 1981, features a dazzling oval 18-carat blue sapphire encircled by a sparkling border of clear white diamonds.

QVC's "Princess Simulated Sapphire Ring" is a cheaper alternative, selling for just $39.54 (€28.80) on the company's website. The ring is available in sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 and comes with a lifetime limited manufacturer's warranty.

"I've always felt that any girl could become a princess. It's my pleasure to offer a ring that has become a royal sensation. Having a long relationship with the British Royal Family, I wish the couple a long and happy marriage," said Kenneth Jane Lane, the jeweler who created the knockoff for QVC.

QVC, Inc. is a multinational corporation specializing in televised home shopping. Founded by American entrepreneur Joseph Segel in 1986, QVC broadcasts in five countries (US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Italy) to 180 million households worldwide.

In addition to QVC, other companies that offer replicas of Middleton's engagement ring include the Natural Sapphire Co. in New York. For $977.50 (€714.92), you can buy a 0.85-carat natural untreated blue sapphire ring with 0.35-carats of surrounding F VVS2 round diamond accent stones created in 14K white gold.
