From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. There are a mere 37 days left till Christmas and even less till the festive party season kicks off. From awkward office parties to big New Year blow-outs, inboxes are steadily filling with invitations to pull on your glad rags and get into a celebratory mood. In the spirit of the season of excess it’s not just food and drink you can overdo – festive overindulgence also applies to clothes.
While an exuberant approach to dress codes during party season has always been encouraged, this season with the likes of Versace, Tom Ford and Balmain all advocating an OTT approach to glamour, there’s no excuse for even the most sedate of dressers not to get on board with a bit of sparkle.
Whether it’s sequins, beading or embroidery in black tie gowns, itsy bitsy disco dresses or eye-catching accessories, anything goes as long as it involves embellishment. The great thing about metallic colours is they all work together, it’s impossible to go wrong; mix and matching silver and gold is pretty straightforward but adding brighter jewel tone colours will also work in the mix.
A great example is Olivier Rousteing’s collection for Balmain of emerald green, magenta pink and sapphire blue – think the colours of Quality Street chocolates – which are probably about to become very familiar.
But there’s no need to splash the cash to Balmain levels; the thing about festive dressing is it’s limited to once-a-year wear, so the less you can spend the better.
Luckily all things bling are something the great British high street does exceptionally well. New Look has even released a special limited edition party collection with every type of sparkle you can imagine and at prices that will leave change for your Christmas shopping.
