Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The latest products, services and beauty techniques will be on display at the upcoming Beautyworld Japan exhibition, with the organizers and companies taking part announcing a number of charity events designed to provide support and funds to areas of Japan hardest hit by the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake.
The exhibition opens on May 16 at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center, with 320 domestic companies showcasing their wares alongside 42 foreign firms.
The largest exhibition of its kind in Japan has this year announced a charity nail design event, with the top designers taking part in the "Gambare Nippon! (Go Japan!) Stand Up Nailists!" contest in the hopes their techniques will "energize Japan."
Other designers and beauty companies will also be donating products and services to a number of charity auctions and other fundraising events.
Organizers are hoping to match the 54,680 visitors who attended last year's event, with the majority of visitors expressing an interest in cosmetics products, beauty salon services, natural and organic products and dietary and health products.
This year's event will also encompass the latest designs in beauty equipment, medical esthetic products, haircare lines, perfumery and toiletries.
Part of the fair will be devoted to spa and wellness products, with representatives of the Chiva-Som International Health Resort in Thailand scheduled to give a presentation on the spa.
Other seminars will examine specialist care for feet, muscle toning and hormone massages to achieve glowing skin, while business seminars will explore ways in which to make salons more successful, qualifications in the esthetic industry, marketing techniques, regulatory issues and analysis of the beauty markets in Asian countries.
