From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Founder of cool-girl nail brand Wah Nail’s, Sharmadean Reid is a powerhouse of female ingenuity who has gone from zine maker to salon owner and fashion designer with an MBE in just a matter of years.
For her latest endeavour, the entrepreneur has joined forces with ASOS on a clothing collection inspired by both her West London girlfriends and the changeable style of the late princess.
The idea came from a back issue of the Wah Zine that preceded the nail salon - “One issue, we did a page called ‘When Di Was Fly’ and myself and Charlotte Roberts from The Mushpit had found all these images of Princess Diana in streetwear… she always loved bomber jackets, she actually dressed quite American preppy, she even wore Harvard jumpers,” she told Dazed Digital.
Just like Diana’s style, Sharmadean’s collection is a mish-mash of contradictions; East meets West, smart and casual, or as she likes to put it: “Half of it’s uptown, half of it’s downtown.”
From suits and elegant dresses paired with pearls, to varsity jackets and chunky sweaters that read “Royal” on the front and “Loyal” on the back, each piece exists as an ode to the iconic style of Lady Di.
Sharmadean Reid x ASOS launches October 10, 2016
