A model known for shaking up body image and beauty standards, Ashley Graham has returned with a new collection for inclusive fashion brand Swimsuits For All.
But this time, she’s modelling alongside her 53-year-old mother, Linda Graham.
The new campaign, titled “Power of the Journey”, features the mother and daughter duo posing in a range of swimsuits and two-piece bikinis against a desert backdrop, in a bid to empower women of all sizes and ages.
Graham shared the images with her 6.1m followers on Instagram alongside the caption, “I got it from my mama. Introducing @themamagraham in Morocco for my new @swimsuitsforallcampaign.”
Shot by photographer Ben Watts, Graham’s mother might look like a natural on camera but she admitted that last August was the first time she had worn a two-piece in almost 30 years.
“I had never put on a string bikini. Ever," she told Vogue.
“Here I am at 53 years old and in a hot pink string bikini, but I was kind of in love with that swimsuit!”
And, that’s exactly what Graham was hoping the campaign would achieve.
Crediting her mother with helping her develop her self-assurance, the model said she jumped at the opportunity to pose alongside her.
“When they came to me with the concept I was like, that is such a good idea, don't even ask her — I'm going to tell her! She has no choice!” Graham said.
And she hoped her mother’s confidence in wearing a bikini after so many years would encourage other women to do the same.
“What I want is for women my mother's age to feel empowered and to know that they too can look just as hot in a one-piece, a two-piece, or string bikini,” she explained.
“I believe that beauty is beyond, age, race, or size, and it’s not a trend — at every stage of your life, you can feel beautiful.”
The campaign comes after mother and daughter duos are seemingly out to dominate the fashion industry.
Lanvin’s spring/summer 2015 campaign featured veteran models Violetta Sanchez, Pat Cleveland and Kirsten Owen alongside their daughters Luz Godin, Anna Cleveland and Bille Rose Owen.
While 90s supermodel Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber both took to the runway for Versace’s spring/summer 2018 show at Milan Fashion Week.
Ashley Graham’s 13-piece collection is available to shop now at Swimsuits For All, with each piece in available in sizes 4 – 22.
