From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference. It might have only come out on Friday, but Katherine Ryan’s latest Netflix series, The Duchess, is already becoming one of the most talked-about things on TV.
The six-part series follows a woman named Katherine juggling single motherhood alongside her business while dealing with her troubled ex.
But it’s not just the Canadian comedian’s witty and light-hearted script that has amassed fans, it’s the way she’s dressed.
Katherine’s wardrobe is fabulously flamboyant. There are feathered pyjamas from Sleeper, patterned socks from Gucci, and a lot of Givenchy handbags.
Then there are the sharp velvet blazers, the fluorescent tulle skirts, and the embellished headbands.
And of course, there’s the sweatshirt she wears on the school run with her nine-year-old daughter that reads “world’s smallest p****”.
Each and every single outfit Katherine wears is masterfully crafted, adding to her characterisation as - here are a few of our favourite looks.
Every moment for Katherine is a fashion moment, even if all she’s doing is taking her daughter, Olive, to school.
This is one of her best school run ensembles. The knee-high Gucci socks clash gloriously with Katherine’s pink shoes and her pleated purple dress.
The black velvet blazer brings the look together while making it look somehow acceptable to wear an Eighties prom dress in the middle of the day in 2020.
Why wear one fuchsia item when you can wear many? This all-fuchsia look gives Katherine just the right level of empowering sass that she needs to confront her estranged ex.
The flowing tulle skirt gives an ethereal feel while the red and gold belt creates an hourglass silhouette.
This look is nothing short of iconic. The sweatshirt would be enough on its own, but the fact that Katherine wears such an item over the top of a feathered Sleeper co-ord brings the outfit into another league entirely.
Then there’s the fact that she’s wearing it with Olive, which packs quite the punch, in every sense of the word.
Ryan revealed in a recent interview that the jumper is actually her own.
“It’s a Rachel Antonoff subversive, feminist piece,” she told Fashion Magazine.
"It actually means the opposite of what it looks like it means; it’s a shoutout to the patriarchy, like ‘is this what you want?’ So we played with humour and fashion because a lot of people think they can’t go together but fashion should be fun."
This gothic Barbie ensemble might seem a bit out of place amid Katherine’s colourful wardrobe, but the eccentricities are in the details.
Take the pointed leather stilettos, which she wears with tight leather socks that hug her calves, or the ribbon she’s wearing as a choker, or the gold cocktail ring on her right hand.
Then there’s the netted hat that reaches over her face, providing even more glamour than you thought possible. Again, the look is made all the more brilliant by the fact that Katherine is wearing it just to take Olive to school.
Katherine’s daytime date look is poised and elegant, while still being eccentric.
The checked coat perfectly matches the pastel pink shade of her Victorian high-neck blouse and gently offsets the lime green hue of her tulle skirt.
But really, what makes this look a standout one is Katherine’s Victoria Percival headband, which is embellished with pearls and butterflies. And because nothing is ever understated, she matches the headband with oversized drop-down earrings.
