Alesha Dixon has been hailed for wearing a Black Lives Matter necklace on the latest episode of Britain’s Got Talent.

The TV presenter’s choice of jewellery comes after a Black Lives Matter-inspired performance on the show by dance troupe Diversity led to more than 24,000 complaints to media regulator Ofcom.

The routine referred to the global protests that erupted in support of the movement and also touched on the killing of George Floyd.

Ofcom has since announced that it will not be investigating ITV in light of the complaints.

Now, Dixon has been praised for what many viewers are labelling a “power move” for wearing a gold chain necklace on Saturday that had the letters “BLM” hanging from it.

“Alesha Dixon wearing a BLM necklace is such a power move and I am HERE for it,” tweeted one person.

“I literally loooove that Alesha Dixon wore a BLM necklace on BGT tonight after the Ofcom complaints,” added another.

Dixon’s jewellery choice comes after she tweeted about the Ofcom complaints and addressed rumours that she had threatened to quit Britain’s Got Talent in light of them.

“For the record I never threatened to quit BGT,” she tweeted before confirming her support for Diversity and its leader, Ashley Banjo.

ITV also issued a statement at the time of the complaints to confirm that they too were standing by Diversity.

“Britain’s Got Talent has always been an inclusive show, which showcases diversity and supports strong storytelling in all forms and ITV stands behind the decision to broadcast Diversity’s performance on BGT," the broadcaster said.

“Ashley and the group are a great example of the talent, creativity and diversity of modern Britain and their performance was an authentic, heartfelt response to many of the issues and events which have affected society in 2020.”
