Your support makes all the difference.A new line of Adidas trainers named after a small North East mining town have sold out of many sizes within minutes - now pairs are appearing on eBay for hundreds of pounds.
The German sportwear giant launched a limited edition pair of Adidas Ashington trainers in honour of footballing hero Sir Bobby Charlton.
Sir Bobby is regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time, and was one of the key members of the England team which won the World Cup in 1966.
He was born in the small north east mining town of Ashington, Northumberland, in 1937, and is the nephew of Newcastle United star Jackie Milburn. His brother Jack also became a professional footballer with Leeds United.
And while it's 60 years since his debut for Manchester United, Sir Bobby, who turned 79 earlier this month, remains an unwavering figure in football’s heritage.
He is regarded as one of the greatest English players of all-time, and is Manchester United’s top goalscorer.
It’s no wonder then, that the football stalwart should have his very own trainer made in his honour.
Adidas released teaser images of the boot earlier this year but they didn’t give too much away.
Today's release - available only in person at the firm's Manchester and London stores - show that the trainers are a glossy black with white stripes and the word 'Ashington' embossed in gold on the side.
They appear to be a throwback to the style of boot worn during Charlton’s heyday. The heel of the shoe is also embellished with a Red Devil in tribute to the midfielder’s club, United.
Despite the ‘Ashington’ only being released today, the shoes have already appeared on eBay at extortionately escalated prices, some charging up to £500.
But with limited numbers offered and rumours that the shoe has already sold out, fans will surely to great lengths, and costs, to get their hands on a pair.
