Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sophie Anderton, 21, Elite model, wears long cardigan by Plein Sud, top by Kalayone Adeli, trousers by Guess, boots by Costume National, bag bought in Australia

"This is my glammed-up version of the street look. My favourite designers are John Galliano and Clements Ribeiro, and I've started to get into Copperwheat Blundell. I'd say I've been a shopaholic for ever, even before I became a model. I'm always going to Koh Samui, Tokio and Mimi in London, I also like Morgan and French Connection. My favourite thing is an antique Pucci dress which I bought for pounds 250 - an identical one was auctioned at Christie's recently for pounds 1,500. I've changed the way I dress - you have to think about what you wear when the paparazzi are around. It's important for me to feel comfortable, and not over-exposed."

"B" White, 19, shop assistant at Urban Outfitters, wears Japanese T-shirt by foo 2, cinch-back lumber jeans by G-Star, "anti-dote" wrist band, all from Urban Outfitters, and Nike Air trainers

"You can't buy this bracelet. It came tagged to a delivery of clothes today. People wear rubber bands around their wrists now, so I'm sure this type of bracelet will become trendy. I love my trainers, I've got 15 pairs, and I love my Japanese influences. Japan takes Western culture and gives it back in a new way. I always like to wear dark denim, my favourite label is G-Star, but if I had loads of money I'd shop in Duffer of St George, it's crisp, edgy and street. I spend most of my money on trainers, I can't remember the last time I wore shoes. For me it's about being comfy and happy in what you're wearing."

Maddy Simpson, 22, from Kansas City, is an Elite model, painter and fashion student. She wears a second-hand embroidered silver leather jacket bought in Seattle, vest from J Crew, trousers from Gap, boots from Milan, bear-claw necklace from Alaska

"This jacket is older than me. It's my wannabe rock star jacket, it goes with me everywhere. My necklace was a gift from my dad, it's a native symbol and is traditionally worn by men, I guess it's like my protection. Right now I'm into Gothic. There's this Belgian designer called Olivier Theyskens, he's only 21 years old and he's revived that whole romantic Gothic Eighties vibe. The UK is great for the crazy innovative stuff. It works here, not in New York. I like courageous fashion, but I'm trying not to think about shopping at the moment."

Huggy Ragnarsson, 34, photographer, wears silver top by Calvin Klein, black trousers from Joseph, bag from Republica, boots from Pied a Terre, hair-clips from Miss Selfridge

"I had the idea for the Elite Street book a year ago - it was a really `blonde' thing to do because I had no idea how much work it would take, but we got it done in time. It's a fashion and style manual, like a guide for young women. We shot it on DVC film with all the big Elite girls, Claudia, Naomi, Linda - they're great. I just love them. I have a 10-year-old daughter called Olivia, in fact I'm wearing her hair-clips. I gave up modelling when I had her, and then took up photography, literally with her in the buggy in front of me. My favourite designers are John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. I can only wear clothes that are well made."
