This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Help us keep bring these critical stories to light. Your support makes all the difference.

Kirsty Smith 21, model from Sheffield, wears black dress from Top Shop, hair-clip from Miss Selfridge, high heels from Sacha.

"I like simple clothes, if I like something I buy it. I do like really high heels though, they make my legs look extra long. There is an art to dressing up, and I think you've either got it or you haven't. I'm here with loads of housemates who think the place is hilarious. They laugh at all the pretentious people, and we stick together. I've done various jobs, I'm on the cover of Bizarre this month. I also did page three of the Sun about three months ago. I didn't like the picture much, but it was so funny, they put something like `Curvy Kirsty from Sheffield who never misses her local team Sheffield Wednesday play at home' and I've never been to a match in my life!"

Kelly Kinetic 23, DJ from near Southend, Essex, wears leopard print corset dress from Hype DF, cream shoes designed by a friend, diamante jewellery by John Richmond, hair clips from Lakeside shopping centre.

"I've been DJ-ing for three years on and off. This is my first time at Stringfellows and I'm here with my friend Sasha who is a glamour model. I'm amazed by the women's figures in here, no hips and big boobs. I'm not like that, which is why I always wear corsets. My mum laced me in tonight, I was like `pull it right in!' I love partying. I never stop. My party girl tip is `if you've got it flaunt it, and don't let people put you down'. My favourite place to shop is Hype DF, it's got everything under one roof. I also like Vivienne Westwood, Issey Miyake, Christian Lacroix and Owen Gaster."

Emma Padfaeld 20, model from Leeds, wears jacket bought at Clothes Show Live, bikini top from a shop in Leeds, white mini-skirt from the Versace V2 range, bag by Fiorelli.

"I've been doing bits of modelling for six years. I've done stuff for the Sun, Sky TV, GMTV and Live TV. The funniest job I've done was for The Big Breakfast with Keith Chegwin. We're at Stringfellows tonight for my best friend Lisa Broome's birthday. I love the atmosphere and the people. I love clothes and dressing up, and I love having fun. I like Ralph Lauren, and Alexander McQueen, he's funky and outrageous, I've got a white mini-dress by him. My boyfriend bought me a Hugo Boss top today, he's a Premiership footballer. My biggest weakness is the Aveda Retreat at Harvey Nichols, that's where I get my hair done."

Cathy Bailey 20, model from Gloucester, wears fake leather boob tube, fake leather trousers, both by New Look, and extreme Perspex high heels from Erotica.

"I've been modelling for about a year, and I love it. I've done some funny things in that time like this slot on Live TV called Painted Ladies where you have to paint another girl and roll around a bit. I've also modelled for the Sport. It's just a bit of fun. This outfit from New Look cost about pounds 35, but I tell everyone it's from Gucci - it's a girl's prerogative - and people, especially men, always believe me. I like to be dressy, I don't care what anyone else says, and I don't feel comfortable in trainers. I even wear sparkly jeans to my mum's, she says they make me look like RuPaul. When I make my fortune I will wear Versace and McQueen."
