What are Britain's ab fab fashion designers, from Antonio Berardi to Vivienne Westwood, dreaming of finding under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning? Melanie Rickey and Holly Davies took notes from their Christmas lists.

Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer

"I would like an old-fashioned earthenwear cous-cous cooking pot, the best quality olive oil, some shallots, chillies, and spices. I don't want aluminium because it poisons you."

Tagine, pounds 50, by Le Creuset, available from Elizabeth David Cook Shop, 3A North Row, The Market, London WC2, 0171-836 9167.

Ren Pearce and Andrew Fionda of glamour design duo, Pearce Fionda

Ren: I'd like a crash course in motorbike riding and a Moto Guzzi when I pass. Oh, and a whole set of leathers to go with it."

Andrew: "I want a puppy. Something cute and fluffy. Actually, I'd like a Rottweiler. Otherwise, I'd like a year's pass to the Odeon cinema, or a subscription to Empire magazine or The Independent.

Ben de Lisi, evening wear designer

"I'd love to find a rolled-up Rothko canvas in my stocking; if it was framed it wouldn't fit in."

Mark Rothko 1930-1970 by Diane Waldman, Thames & Hudson, pounds 45, available to order from Dillons Arts, Long Acre, Covent Garden, WC2, 0171-836 1359.

Antoni & Alison, T-shirt designers

Alison: "Old-fashioned flowery bath cubes, preferably mixed scents."

Antoni: "A pair of cotton socks."

Bath cubes available from Boots the Chemist and leading department stores.

Antonio Berardi, young designer

"A Chrome Heart key chain from Browns, and a Dolce & Gabbana coat."

Chrome Heart key chain, pounds 1,500, from Browns, 23-27 South Molton Street, London W1

Owen Gaster, young designer

"In my dreams I want a black Aston Martin Lagonda, from 1979. I saw one in Brighton and it made me go weak at the knees. I'd also quite like a cat, because I'm moving house and leaving my cats with my family. Or a chunky gold chain, maybe one from Adams."

Inacio Ribeiro and Suzanne Clements of British design duo Clements Ribeiro

Suzanne: "A small dog, maybe a wire-haired fox terrier, one that doesn't need too much walking and a Missoni shoulder bag, I saw it in Milan, it's leather with the knitted stripe inside. I would also like a friend for my goldfish, Cinque, his other one died.

Inacio: "I would like a life. But I would really like a British bulldog, I'd call her Emma."

Ally Capellino, designer and retailer

"Apart from my holiday in Cuba, which I will be on by the time you read this, I would like a simple bikini top, maybe something from Liza Bruce.

Sonja Nuttall, young designer

"I would love a cream Vespa Piaggio to get around on, but the only trouble is, if I get one of them I would need a Prada anorak and a bobble hat with matching mittens from Antoni & Alison too, not to mention a pair of chic goggles. If I can't have those I would love an Elsa Peretti fishbowl and two goldfish. My ultimate gift, however, is the one I got. My best friends have sent me off to a little Fijian island to relax, snorkel, play tennis and do nothing. As you read this I will be there, hopefully lying under a palm tree with a cocktail by my side reading Robinson Crusoe or something."

Thelma Spiers and Paul Bernstock of Bernstock Spiers, fashion design duo

Thelma Spiers: "I really want a crombie-style grey wool coat by Helmut Lang, and a tattoo on my hand between my thumb and first finger. So far I haven't found a place to get it done. A diamond and ruby necklace would be the ultimate gift."

Paul Bernstock: "One dozen pairs of black cashmere socks and some Evisu jeans."

Evisu Jeans, pounds 110, from Jones, Floral St, London, WC2, 0171-580 8600.

Ozwald Boateng, bespoke tailor

"I would like an Omega Classic LED watch in silver or gold to add to my collection of Pulsar and LED watches. In my dreams I would like to drive an Aston Martin DB7 in silver which is a bit like a James Bond car, or for something really exceptional the Ferrari 550, but it is as expensive as it is beautiful."

Omega Digital Seamaster watch, pounds 2,522, from Mappin & Webb, 170 Regent Street, London W1, enqs 01703-646 800.

Tanya Sarne, chief designer, Ghost

"I would like some sleep and peace and quiet. Santa are you listening?"
