Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Over the next six weeks, the Women In Tradition concert series is seeking to highlight the fundamental role of women in traditional world music. Before the series moves on to illustrate the female influence on the musical cultures of Ireland, Zimbabwe, Algeria, India and Spain, the Catalan singer Rosa Zaragoza will open Women In Tradition by singing extracts from the five remaining manuscripts of the Catalonian Sephardic Jews as well as examples of ancient Mediterranean vocal music. Nostalgic for the magic of the big top? Zippo's Circus celebrates its 25th anniversary and, in the face of stiff competition from avant-garde acts such as Cirque du Soleil and Saltimbanco, Zippo is selling an evening based on old-fashioned circus virtues: thirty international performers, palomino horses, and "genuine" unicorns. Hendon Park, Queen's Road, Hendon. Ringside : pounds 10, children pounds 8; Grandstand: pounds 8, children pounds 6; Side: pounds 5.50, children pounds 3.50 (07050 121 416/131 517).
Even if you film buffs out there can't afford to pick up Christopher Reeve's boots from Superman or Sean Connery's spacesuit from his Eighties flick Outland, there'll be plenty of other rarities on view at Phillips' Toy and Dolls Sale, including a rare tin model of Mickey Mouse. Phillips, 10 Salem Road, Bayswater, London, 12 noon.
