From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Taking to Twitter, the high-stakes professional poker player called out trophy hunters by implying that their cruel hobby was the result of having ‘SPS’ – small penis syndrome.
The so-called ‘King of Instagram’ whose current net worth is $150 million (£113.2 million), wrote, “Shooting animals for trophy’s [sic] is for dudes with small dicks #EatWhatYouKill.”
As far as this multi-millionaire playboy is concerned, if you like to hunt for fun then you’re clearly compensating for shortcomings elsewhere, and if you’re going to kill an animal then you should at least have the decency to eat it.
Famously outspoken, many were shocked by Bilzerian’s statement considering his ‘alpha male’ approach to life and, while some commended his words others were quick to criticise the pro-gun enthusiast for weighing in.
Comparing trophy hunting to Bilzerian’s world of guns, girls and gratuitous glamour, one person wrote, “The animals killed for sport are still treated with more dignity than how you treat women.”
To which the self-proclaimed 'King of Instagram' replied, “False.”
Possibly a reaction to the news that Donald Trump’s administration is considering a change to US policy that would allow the import of elephants killed by hunters abroad, Bilzerian’s tweet questions the manhood of those who consider such a bloodthirsty act to be a sport.
Earlier this week, it emerged that the Trump administration was lifting a ban that would allow the remains of endangered elephants legally hunted in two African countries to be imported to the US, reversing a ban introduced by Barack Obama.
However, Mr Trump revealed in a recent statement that he is halting the controversial change.
“Put big game trophy decision on hold until such time as I review all conservation facts,” he said in a Friday night tweet.
