From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Ms Lusardi, 61, and Mr Kane, 51, were both admitted to hospital around 19 March after being diagnosed with the novel virus.
Mr Kane, however, was discharged a few days later, but Lusardi’s condition got progressively worse and she was forced to stay in hospital.
Kane took to social media to provide updates on his wife’s condition to her many concerned fans, with Linda herself tweeting she had “never felt this ill”.
On Sunday night, Kane confirmed that Lusardi had been discharged from hospital and thanked frontline NHS workers for caring for his wife.
Posting to Twitter, he said: “So blessed to be spending tonight with my beautiful girl at home by my side. God bless the NHS. So happy to have her home.”
Following her release from hospital, Lusardi urged the public to heed the advice of public health experts and to follow social-distancing guidance.
She said: “I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. So stay safe everyone and follow the advice of the experts – please take care of yourselves, loved ones and each other.”
Lusardi first shot to fame as a Page 3 glamour model in the 70s and 80s.
Since then, she has appeared on prime time television shows including Emmerdale and Dancing on Ice as well as Loose Women.
Lusardi is among a number of British celebrities using social media to share their experience of battling with Covid-19.
Last week, former GMTV host Fiona Phillips revealed how the virus brought her a “body-sized cloak of sweat” and kept her up all night.
Singer Sam Smith also shared his experience of self-isolation, while actor Idris Elba released a video to confirm he had contracted the illness.
