Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chrissy Teigen is being praised after offering to purchase classroom supplies for teachers ahead of the new school year.
Over the weekend, the cookbook author, who is currently pregnant with her and John Legend’s third child, shared photos of the home classroom she designed for the couple’s two children Luna and Miles.
“Everyone get ready for... Miss Chrissy. Pregnant and here for it (I really have always wanted to be a teacher!)” the Cravings author captioned photos of the classroom, complete with desks, backpack cubbies and a wall of books, on Twitter.
In the thread, Teigen also asked educators who need school supplies to share their Amazon wish lists, promising that she will “do as many as I can”.
“If you are a teacher in need of supplies for the upcoming school year, please drop your Amazon wish list here, I will do as many as I can!” she wrote.
The offer, which has been liked more than 71,000 times, prompted thousands of responses from educators who expressed their gratitude while sharing the supplies they need.
“High school teacher - even in virtual world, kids need paper and markers and notebooks and highlighters and BOOKS! And, I need new, more diverse materials to teach them with,” one teacher wrote. “Even if my list doesn’t get chosen, THANK YOU for your support!”
Another said: “Thanks for being so willing to help! I’m hoping to diversify my library in my 5th grade classroom. I have books where characters are POC, disabled, have anxiety, dyslexia, are non binary, etc! Representation truly matters.”
On Sunday, Teigen said she had taken care of lists for 50 teachers and would “do more this week”.
“Today I cleared 50 entire lists and countless extra items were purchased from lovely people just passing through. Will do more this week and would love to focus on struggling districts and special needs. Please keep posting in this thread!” she wrote.
In addition to Teigen’s help, her offer also inspired her followers to step in and purchase items on the lists.
“Hi!! I just purchased all the things you had on your list! They should arrive to you this Thursday. Thank you for all you do! Hope you have a great school year! -Andrea,” one of Teigen’s followers responded to a request for school supplies on the list.
