Chrissy Teigen asked Twitter for healthy fast food recommendations - and the responses were useful

Options from Nandos, McDonald's, and Taco Bell were recommended

Chrissy Teigen recently asked her Twitter followers for healthy fast food recommendations - and they actually delivered.

The model and cookbook author who regularly shares her cravings with fans asked the question of her 10.6m followers, writing: “What do you think is the healthiest meal (not side) of any normally junky fast food chain?”

Teigen then informed her followers that she was looking for “serious” responses only.

“NO JOKE ANSWERS PLEASE this is serious,” she wrote.

While many of the more than 2,000 responses were jokes - such as 10 chicken nuggets instead of 20 for half the calories - many people actually suggested healthier options, such as grilled nuggets from Chick Fil A, Nandos spicy chicken rice, or veggie burgers from Burger King with lettuce.

“I accidentally got blackened chicken tenders from Popeye’s once and they were freaking delicious,” one person wrote. “High sodium aside, they’re pretty macro friendly.”

The blackened chicken tenders are a somewhat healthier option, as three tenders are just 170 calories and provide 26g of protein.

The sodium content is high however, at 550mg.

Another person recommended Taco Bell, which has been named one of the fast food chains with the healthiest options, according to Business Insider.

“Taco Bell has the most healthy custom options available,” the fan told Teigen. “As a vegan, it’s the best fast food choice for my diet as well. Order your meal Fresco style and they replace cheese/sauce/sour cream with Pico and shredded lettuce.”

Others suggested bowls from Chipotle without the rice, which can make them whole-30 friendly, and the McDonald’s southwest salad with grilled chicken and no dressing - which is a “nearly perfect balance of fat/carbs/protein.”

The vegan Impossible Burger sliders from White Castle were also recommended, however, one Impossible Burger slider has 870mg of sodium, 18g of protein and 300 calories compared to an original slider which has just 140 calories, 7g of protein and 360mg of sodium.

There were also a lot of salad responses - prompting Teigen to tweet: “Well you are saying salads and to be honest that is not the answer I wanted.”

Despite there being “healthier” fast food options, dieticians don’t recommend eating a diet of solely fast food - as the options often lack important nutrients.

Kara Landau, Australian accredited practising dietician and founder at Uplift Food previously told The Independent: “When we think about what is actually on offer at a fast food chains, there is often a deficit in particular nutrients, such as prebiotic fibres, resistant starches, antioxidants, probiotics, omega 3s and more.
