You're going to have to queue for day seats to see this, theatre's latest hot ticket. David Hare's play about Oscar Wilde is an Almeida production, but the casting of Liam Neeson as the Irish wit necessitated a relocation to a West End theatre three times the capacity of the prestigious North London venue. Contrary to the "screen star in low-wage stage shock" headlines, Neeson is no newcomer to theatre, having quit a teaching career to join the Lyric Theatre Belfast in 1976. He has since worked for the Abbey and the National (as distinct from the building society) and was nominated for a Tony award for his last stage performance in 1993 playing opposite Natasha Richardson in Anna Christie. Reader, he married her. Hare's play, originally conceived for film, has been completely rewritten for the stage and the production marks Richard Eyre's post-National Theatre directing debut.
