Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE Volunteer Centre UK holds its annual conference on Thursday 15 October at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. The theme, 'Raising awareness of volunteering: how do we get the message across?' will be discussed within four forums: employee volunteering from the corporate sector; television images of volunteers; equal opportunities; and the benefits of volunteering. For more details, contact the Volunteer Centre UK, 29 Lower King's Road, Berkhamsted, Herts HP4 2AB; 0442 873311.

THIRD Sector, a new fortnightly subscription magazine for charities, will be launched on Thursday 8 October. Aimed at people working in charities, trusts, foundations and voluntary organisations, the magazine will concentrate on up-to-date news. The editor, Sandra Greaves, says it will deal with issues like the Charities Act, new trends in management practice and investment, and fund-raising. For more information, contact Third Sector, 4 Assam Street, London, E1 7QS; 071-247 0066.
