Britney Spears has shared a rare insight into her family life by posting a photo of her two teenage sons on Instagram.

The singer has two children, Sean Preston, 15, and Jayden, 14, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

On Monday, Spears posted two versions of the same photograph of herself with her two sons on a stretch of empty land in an unknown location.

One was highly edited to make the blue sky appear golden.

“It’s so crazy how time flies,” the 39-year-old captioned her post.

“My boys are so big now !!!! I know … I know … it’s very hard for any mama especially a mama with boys seeing them grow up so fast !!!! Talk about enough to make you go to your knees ... GEEZ !!!!

“I’m extremely lucky because my two babies are such gentleman and so kind that I must have done something right !!!”

Spears went on to explain why she so rarely shares photos of her family.

“I haven’t posted pictures of them for some time cause they’re at the age where they want to express their own identities and I totally get it.

“But I went out of my way to make this cool edit and guess what. They’re finally letting me post it !!!

“Now I don’t feel left out anymore and I’m gonna go celebrate .... Oh s*** I guess cool moms don’t do that ... Ok I’ll just read a book instead !!!!”

Spears’s post has garnered more than one million likes from fans, with many commenting about how happy they were to see an insight into the singer’s family.

“Love seeing you with your boys!!!!!” wrote one person.

“Wooow they’ve grown !” added another.

The post comes after a new documentary about Spears explored the #FreeBritney movement amid the ongoing controversy surrounding her conservatorship.

Framing Britney Spears, which was released as part of The New York Times Presents… series, analyses the treatment of Spears by the media from the beginning of her career, with a focus on how her mental health deteriorated in 2008 and her subsequent placement under a conservatorship.
