Britney Spears opens up about ‘one time’ she cheated on Justin Timberlake

‘It was one of those things where you know but you just don’t say anything,’ pop singer writes

Britney Spears has spoken candidly about the “one time” she was unfaithful to Justin Timberlake in her new memoir The Woman in Me.

In the memoir, the “I’m a Slave 4 U” artist divulged the intimate details of her past relationships, from her 55-hour marriage to her toxic whirlwind romance with the NSYNC singer. Prior to the official release of her memoir on 24 October, multiple outlets leaked excerpts from the book, in which Spears alleged Timberlake, 42, was unfaithful during their relationship.

But, according to Spears, Timberlake wasn’t the only one who was unfaithful during their time together.

“There were a couple of times during our relationship when I knew Justin had cheated on me,” the “Toxic” vocalist wrote. She explained how her “infatuation” with the Hollywood actor caused her to justify and overlook his alleged infidelity.

In 2000, the couple had only been together for about a year. According to Spears, around this time, one of her dancers came forward and told her she’d heard Timberlake brag about being with a woman.

“There were rumours about him with other dancers and groupies. I let it all go, but clearly, he’d slept around,” Spears claimed. “It was one of those things where you know but you just don’t say anything.”

“So I did, too. Not a lot – one time, with Wade Robinson,” she continued.

Spears went on to describe the night she was unfaithful. “We were out one night, and we went to a Spanish bar,” she proclaimed. “We danced and danced. I made out with him that night.”

The “Circus” singer said she told the Friends with Benefits star about the time with Robinson, and they ultimately “moved past it”.

“I thought we were going to be together forever. I hoped we would,” Spears remarked before she disclosed information about their unplanned pregnancy.

Supposedly, Spears was excited to find out she was pregnant, assuming she and Timberlake would be starting a family one day anyway. However, according to Spears, Timberlake was not “happy” about the pregnancy.

She said: “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”

“If he didn’t want to become a father, I didn’t feel like I had much of a choice,” Spears proclaimed.

This led the famed popstar to agree not to have the baby, thus leading to her abortion experience. To this day, Spears questions whether getting the abortion was “the right decision”.

“If it had been left up to me alone, I would never have done it,” she noted. “And yet Justin was so sure he didn’t want to be a father.”

Soon after news of Spears and Timberlake’s split broke, the “Baby One More Time” creator was often negatively portrayed by the media, while Timberlake decided to hint at the infidelity through his music video “Cry Me a River.” In the short film, an actress who looked similar to Spears was caught cheating.

The storm of hate that subsequently followed forced Spears into a period of hopelessness, where she felt more lost than ever, according to the singer. Spears spoke candidly about the time, explaining how Madonna had been her “mentor” while she hid out at Cher’s New York City apartment.
