From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A body positivity blogger has encouraged women to embrace their ‘rolls’ in a nude Instagram post.

Grace Victory poses naked in a towel in the candid snap alongside an inspiring caption, in which she recalls being teased at school when she was a size 12 for having “more rolls than a bakery”.

The 26-year-old YouTube star revealed how she was struggling with an eating disorder at the time and that she has since learned to love her body “no matter what it looks like”.

“More rolls than a bakery,” Victory's caption begins.

“I remember d***heads at school saying that to me when I was a size 12 and struggling with an ED.

“Now I’m in recovery and loving my body no matter what it looks like, as long as I’m healing and well and f***ing living my best life - that’s all that matters #healgrowglow”.

Speaking to The Independent, Victory revealed the image was actually taken a while ago: "I just felt confident that morning," she said, "but at the time, I didn’t have the confidence to share it.

"Posting it was a way to empower myself and acknowledge how far I’ve come."

Uploading it was particularly meaningful because, she added, body insecurities are often exacerbated for women of a larger size.

"We live in a society that is fat-phobic thanks to the diet and beauty industries. We have been subtly bullied and told from toddlers how we should look, talk and be.

"Size is the only form of discrimination that appears to be allowed and we have to remember that how someone looks is nobody else’s business."

Victory’s post has been met with a flurry of supportive comments from her 141,000 followers, several of whom have thanked the TV presenter for her honesty while many admired the image itself, labelling it “beautiful” and “empowering”.

Actual babe,” wrote one commenter, “it’s posts like this that help me blossom and start the journey to self-love and self-confidence”.

“Love that you've reclaimed what that phrase used to mean and now what it means to you!” added another.

Many people also pointed out the lack of diverse body types on Instagram, with one writing: “We need to see more of this in the media”.

The post has been liked more than 17,000 times.
