Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell welcome first child together, a daughter named Grace Warrior

Newborn’s middle names are a tribute to the late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin

Bindi Irwin and her husband Chandler Powell have announced the arrival of their first child, a daughter named Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.

Irwin, the daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin, gave birth to the newborn on 25 March, the couple’s first wedding anniversary.

“March 25th, 2021.Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter,” the 22-year-old captioned a photo of the couple holding the baby. “Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light.”

Irwin then explained the origins of the baby’s name, revealing that Grace is named after her great-grandmother, as well as relatives in Powell’s family “dating back to the 1700s”.

The new mother also revealed the sweet tribute to her late father in her daughter’s name, explaining that the child’s middle names Warrior and Irwin are “a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior”.

“Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad,” Irwin continued. “There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed.”

In a second photo, Irwin shared details about the baby’s weight at birth, and the time of her arrival, alongside an Australia Zoo baby onesie.

Powell also shared a sentimental tribute to the couple’s newborn daughter on his own Instagram, where he posted the same photo and wrote: “Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. After waiting for you to arrive for the last nine months, finally meeting you has been the best moment of my life.

“You have a big life ahead of you and no matter what, you will be surrounded by a whole lot of love. Thank you for gracing your beautiful mother and me on our wedding anniversary, so excited to have you home.”

In a post on Twitter, Irwin’s mother Terri said that her heart is “so incredibly happy” over the arrival of the couple’s first child, adding that she knows “Steve would be beyond proud”.

“Grace is the next generation to continue his mission and message of conservation. She chose her parents wisely,” she wrote. “Bindi and Chandler are already the best parents ever!”

The couple first announced that they were expecting their first child in August, when they shared a photo of themselves holding a tiny Australia Zoo uniform with the caption: “Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021.”

Since then both Irwin and Powell have shared updates with their followers on social media, with Irwin captioning a black-and-white photo of the couple cradling her pregnant stomach earlier this week: “My world.”
