Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.PAYING OFF a mortgage early is every borrower's dream. For most of us, however, the opportunity to do so is limited. Which is where Britannia Building Society has stepped in with its Minimiser Mortgage.
The deal works as follows. After the first five years the society will automatically lop 5 per cent off the cost of the loan. At the 10-year mark, another 5 per cent is cut, and so on until year 20, when the total cut is 30 per cent.
On a pounds 60,000 loan, this means an pounds 18,000 cut in the cost of the loan. In addition, borrowers also qualify for Britannia's loyalty points. On the same loan, the total amount of loyalty payments over 25 years would come to a further pounds 3,700.
Catches? Well, the variable rate charged is at the high end, at 8.85 per cent. But then again, you could be with the Halifax for 25 years - and you won't get an 18-grand cut. Call 0800 536350.
