Persistent truants are to receive counselling from fellow pupils in all primary and secondary school in Brent. From September a full-time co-ordinator and professional counsellor will work with truants and their parents, eventually training the child counsellors.
The scheme seeks to capitalise on the success of bullying hotlines, where former victims offer confidential advice and support to their peers.
