This autumn it's all about jeweled tones of emeralds and sapphires
As we say goodbye to bright summery colours, September brings deep and moody hues of blues and greens, says Mackenzie Mackie
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Acclaimed interior designer, Tara Bernerd, chose emerald green as a key colour for her latest project, Il Pampero, in Belgravia. The regal tone lends show-stopping drama to the Italian restaurant. For high impact at home, choose statement pieces, such as sofas and bed linen, or for those feeling less brave, add a touch of luxury with jewel toned cushions and accessories.
To create a sense of luxury at home, opt for the Lady May in Dusky Velvet Grass from Sofa Workshop (main image). Handmade in British studios, the traditional style sofa is brought to life in bold emerald green.
Blue is a perennial favourite and this season, sapphire takes centre stage. Award winning interior designer, Shalini Misra, opted for the opulent shade for a recent project, painting the walls and ceiling in the stylish hue, delivering high impact.
David Harris, Design Director at Andrew Martin says, “Painted ceilings are a good idea with crisp white picture rails and soft blush or gentle coral walls for a feel of the Italian Riviera. It’s cool and refreshing when paired with Carrera marble and antique brass fittings in bathrooms, and it’s the perfect colour choice for a plush velvet on modern brass-framed sofas and chairs. This colour really works with anything and is bang up to date.”
Cushions are one of the simplest and most affordable ways to update your interiors. Pack a punch with the Weavers cushion in Petrol from Australian brand, Sheridan, or choose the Palazzo cushion in Moss from inspirational interiors label, Andrew Martin.
“Blue and green should never be seen”, as the old adage goes, but some rules are made to be broken. As these two shades sit next to one another on the colour wheel, combining them creates a harmonious interiors scheme. Green is associated with renewal and optimism, whilst blue has connotations of inspiration and serenity, making them the perfect colour pairing for a bedroom. The fall collection from Swedish brand, Lexington, consists of sateen bed linen and velvet shams in deep blues and emerald green.
Kristina Lindhe, Creative Director of Lexington says, “When the days get shorter, I like to add fall-inspired shades to the bedroom. This season’s colours are strong and rich, from dark blue to emerald green, which really warm up your home.”
