In June 2018, the singer revealed on Instagram she'd had the word "Always" tattooed on her ribcage.
Some of Grande's fans, who refer to themselves as "Arianators", theorised that the word was written in Davidson's handwriting, with whom she had been romantically linked for two months at the time.
During their relationship, both the singer and the comedian acquired several tattoos that fans believed paid tribute to one another, including a bunny symbol behind Davidson's left ear, which appears on the cover of Grande's Dangerous Woman album, and matching cloud tattoos.
The couple announced their engagement in June 2018 following a whirlwind romance.
Now, five months after their breakup in October 2018, Grande has revealed a new addition to her "Always" tattoo, which is now surrounded by a leafy design.
On Sunday evening, the Breathin singer shared a photo of the updated tattoo on Instagram.
"Not a cover up just evolvin," Grande wrote in the caption.
The clarification that the tattoo hasn't been covered up may have been in reference to the 25-year-old's decision to seemingly conceal several of the tattoos she obtained during her relationship with Davidson.
During her first public appearance following their split at NBC’s A Very Wicked Halloween televised concert in October 2018, Grande wore a plaster on her ring finger, where she had the name "Pete" tattooed.
The singer had her latest ink design done by tattoo artist Mira Mariah while preparing for her Sweetener world tour.
Mariah expressed her excitement over her collaboration with Grande on Instagram.
"Middle of the night leaves on the queen," the tattoo artist wrote.
"I love you thank you this is all!"
