Ariana Grande marks third anniversary of Manchester Arena bombing: ‘Not a day goes by that this doesn’t affect you and all of us still’
Tragic incident took place on Thursday 22 May in 2017
Ariana Grande has shared a touching message to fans ahead of the third anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing.
Writing on an Instagram Story, the 26-year-old singer explained that the tragic incident still has a major impact on her and many others.
“I want to take a moment to acknowledge and send my love to everyone that is feeling the sadness and tremendous heaviness of the anniversary coming up this week,” Grande began the message, which was written against a blank grey background.
“Not a day goes by that this doesn’t affect you and all of us still,” she added.
The “Dangerous Woman” singer continued that her thoughts will be with victims of the attack, and those who were present on the night, for the coming days.
“I will be thinking of you all week and weekend,” she wrote.
“My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you always.”
On 22 May 2017, Isis supporter Salman Abedi detonated a homemade explosive device in the foyer of the Manchester Arena while Grande was performing inside.
The attack left 22 people dead and up to 800 more injured.
The singer has previously addressed how the attack affected her.
“It’s not my trauma,” she told Vogue in a 2019 interview.
“It’s those families’. It’s their losses, and so it’s hard to just let it all out without thinking about them reading this and reopening the memory for them.”
Grande added that she was “proud” of the One Love Manchester concert, which raised more than £10m ($13m) for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund in the wake of the terror attack.
The concert saw countless musicians perform, including Grande, Justin Bieber and Coldplay.
“But at the end of the day, it didn’t bring anyone back,” Grande told the publication.
”Everyone was like, Wow, look at this amazing thing, and I was like, What the f*** are you guys talking about? We did the best we could, but on a totally real level we did nothing. I’m sorry.”
