Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Rugby: It has been reported that the Old Street Onians, a London rugby club, have written to Hackney Council to ask if their home pitch on Hackney Marshes can be repainted so that it lies east-west instead of north-south. The idea came from the clubs feng shui adviser, Mao Ng, who believes the change could enable energies to flow more smoothly.
Basketball: A coroner in Melbourne, Australia, has called for slam dunks to be banned in the state of Victoria after a teenager died attempting one. The death was caused by the basketball pole and ring collapsing on the player as he slammed the ball into the net.
Dunking: Three workers from the McVitie's plant at Tollcross, Glasgow, have won the world's first biscuit-dunking championships held in their home town last weekend. Their winning total was 37 biscuits in a minute. A team from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, finished one biscuit behind. The event was the climax of National Dunking Week.
