Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Leg: A cemetery in Cuenco, Ecuador has refused the request of a man who wanted his amputated leg to be given a Christian burial. He lost the leg after a bout of diabetes, but asked his family to save it for burial. When he arrived at the cemetery to buy a plot for the leg, however, he was met with a refusal as the rest of the body was missing. The leg had to be thrown away.

Ears: Two boys aged eight and nine are recovering at the Cape Town Red Cross Children's Hospital after having their ears sewn back on by a plastic surgeon. The owner of a drinking club had sliced the boys' ears off because he suspected them of stealing money from him.

Cleavage: Members of parliament in Madrid are demanding an apology from Manuel Fraga, 75, for saying, of a female member, that "All she had to show was her cleavage". Mr Fraga, the president of the Galicia region, said the remark was a "pleasant allusion to a woman's attributes".
