Amanda Knox, who was acquitted of the murder of Meredith Kercher in 2011, has made reference to the time she spent in jail in an Instagram post.

The 31-year-old spent four years in prison after she and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were jailed for the murder of Kercher in Italy.

Making a joke that she had been accused of murder once again, Knox shared photographs of herself at a murder mystery event posing as English mathematician and writer Ada Lovelace.

Knox said her character had been accused of stabbing the owner of an expensive piece of artwork and that she had been exonerated in four hours, adding: “Better than four years”.

The caption read: “Victorian London: A priceless painting goes missing and the owner is found both poisoned and stabbed.

“And would you believe it, I, the Countess of Lovelace, am accused.

“Also acquitted, all in 4 hours. Better than 4 years. #murdermysteryparty.”

The images divided opinion among Instagram users. While some said they appreciated Knox’s “dark sense of humour” others called her “sick” and said she would "do anything for attention".

Knox was convicted but later cleared of murdering 21-year-old Kercher in Italy in 2007.

The body of the British exchange student, was found by police in the flat she shared with Knox in Perugia, Italy, on 2 November.

Knox and her then-Italian boyfriend, Scollecito, were found guilty of murder and sexual assault, but their convictions were later overturned.

Two years later, the Perugia Court of Appeal acquitted the pair of the more serious charges, but upheld Ms Knox’s conviction for malicious accusation.
