From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The former editor of British Vogue has been praised online for promoting body positivity after sharing a candid photograph of herself in a bikini while on holiday.
Alexandra Shulman, 59, captioned the snap “ready for the boat trip!” - and drew support from her followers for sharing the apparently unfiltered and unedited shot.
Her Instagram fans praised the legendary editor for the post, which shows her in a bare-looking hotel room in Greece, posing in the morning sunlight.
“Good on you as we all need to see a real woman in her swim gear. It's something the majority of women don't enjoy doing but let's make it about real women's bodies and less Love Island. You look true and fab,” one commenter wrote.
“Good for you Alexandra - real woman without photoshop, giving us girls of a certain age confidence - true life!” wrote another.
The image has been liked more than 5,000 times, and led to more than 200 comments.
"My chosen method of preparation for the great summer unveiling is to have a really good pedicure,” Shulman once revealed to the Daily Mail, “so that my toes are ready to greet the fresh air for the first time this year - with a little help from three layers of Butter's coral-coloured Macbeth varnish,” Shulman explained, who has previously spoken out about her own body insecurities.
“I am comfortable in my body. I don't think it's particularly great," the mother of one wrote.
Since stepping down from the title last month after an impressive 25 year tenure, Shulman has been enjoying a restful few weeks abroad.
Her successor Edward Enninful, former creative director at W, has already begun working towards the December issue, after joining the title last week.
The final issue of British Vogue as edited by Shulman is on newsstands now.
