Throughout lockdown, many have had to go long periods of time without seeing members of their family.
However, as lockdown measures continue to ease across the UK, more people are able to see their loved ones in person for the first time in months.
From 6 July, travel restrictions are being lifted in Wales to allow people to travel freely across the country.
Among those preparing to make their way to the country is Welsh television presenter Jones, who will be visiting her mother.
Just a few days before travelling from England to Wales, Jones was treated to a surprise reunion with her mother on The One Show.
While presenting the BBC programme on Friday 3 July, Jones was told by her fellow presenter, pundit Alex Scott, that they had received a message from a woman called Mary who lives near Swansea who hadn’t seen her daughter in four months.
Jones looked visibly emotional upon hearing this news, placing a hand on her chest.
“No!” the 43-year-old exclaimed as her mother then appeared on the large television screen to her left, before explaining that they are due to see each other in five days.
“It’s been four very long months,” her mother responded, before tearing up.
Jones added that while her mother is “always put together”, speaking to her on The One Show is the “first time” she has seen her become “quite emotional” during lockdown.
In addition to the surprise video call with her mother, Scott also thanked Jones – who is going on a two-week break from the show – for providing viewers with entertainment during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We do have to let everyone know that obviously Al, you’ve been keeping us all entertained during the whole of lockdown, working so hard to keep smiles on everyone’s faces,” the former England footballer said.
In response, Jones said: “It’s been a real privilege coming to work every day with all of you lot and also thanks for being the reason, as well as my family, for getting me through this really weird time. Honestly, it’s been a real honour to be here doing this job.”
Several The One Show viewers wished Jones a happy two-week break on Twitter, with one stating: “You have uplifted us all during these dark times now enjoy your time with the family.”
