British comedian Alan Carr has said that those who focus on his longtime friend Adele’s weight loss have “missed the point.”

This week, Carr appeared on the talk show Lorraine, where he shared his thoughts on the recent attention on the Someone Like You singer’s appearance.

“She’s always been gorgeous with those eyes and those lips," the 44-year-old said. "You sort of missed the point if you’re just worried about what size knickers she wears.”

“Because it’s the voice,” he continued. “It’s that inspirational, awesome voice.

“It’s all about the voice for me.”

The pair have been friends for a long time, with Adele officiating Carr’s wedding to Paul Drayton in 2018.

"I married two of my best friends in January. You know me any excuse to dress up... @chattyman #LoveisLove,” the 32-year-old captioned a photo from the event at the time.

In May, the singer made a surprise return to social media with a photo of herself standing in front of a giant floral arch and wearing a black dress in celebration of her 32nd birthday.

“Thank you for the birthday love. I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time,” she wrote, before taking the opportunity to acknowledge those working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels. 2020 okay bye thanks x.”

Adele, who is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, also returned to Instagram this week to share a behind-the-scenes photo of herself preparing for the show, in which she can be seen wearing a mask and reading a script.

“Three days to go,” the singer captioned the photo.

Earlier in the week, the star expressed her excitement over the opportunity to host SNL, writing on Instagram that she is “so excited” and “also absolutely terrified.”

“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!” she wrote, adding that she has always wanted to do this but the timing has never been right.

Adele, who has been a musical guest twice on SNL, once in October 2008 and then in November 2015, also reflected on her previous appearances on the show.

“It'll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election...which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!” she wrote.
