Like father, like son – Stanley Johnson’s escape to Greece is a matter of prioritising business over health
Why let a few public health warnings stand in the way of making some extra cash, asks Janet Street-Porter
Is there one rule for Boris Johnson’s family and friends and another for the rest of us?
Following the furore over Dominic Cummings’ trip to County Durham during lockdown with wife and child, you might expect an order to have gone out from Downing Street to keep everyone singing from the same hymn sheet to avoid any further faux pas.
Not so, Johnson senior has just proved he’s a law unto himself. Foreign Office advice states no one should travel to Greece unless it is essential, and Greece itself has banned flights from the UK until 15 July. Ignoring his own son’s directives regarding lockdown, Stanley Johnson flew to Athens via Bulgaria, proudly posting pictures on his social media accounts.
According to Stanley, the trip is “essential” as he is making his holiday home “Covid-proof” for renters. Why let a few public health warnings stand in the way of making some extra cash? Like father, like son – health is being traded off against business opportunities as we emerge from the worse health disaster in centuries.
