From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Transfer battles are set to take place this summer, with Everton and Newcastle set to go head to head for the signing of Porto defender Rolando, for just £5million.
Two teams, who seem to have the biggest war chests of the summer Arsenal and Manchester City, will lock horns for Lille midfielder Florian Thuvain. Dubbed the ‘new Nasri’ a deal could be agreed for around £3million.
City meanwhile are looking to add to a limited strike force after the sales of Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez. Their replacements look set to be Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic for a mere £40million.
Another striker who is set to move is Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke; the Belgian striker wants a move to Tottenham by this Thursday when he returns to England from his summer break. Benteke seems he might not be the only Belgian coming to White Hart Lane. The agent of Nacer Chadli has spoken out, urging Tottenham to make a bid but has not ruled out a move to Swansea City.
Brendan Rodgers wants to continue with his summer spree and it could be big with Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri the target. Shaqiri could cost Liverpool up to £20million with Bayern more likely to suit to a loan move.
As Bayern reached an agreement with Thiago on Sunday, Manchester United have now set their sights on another Barca player and one who knows the Premier League well in Cesc Fabregas. United would have to stump up a huge £34million for the World Cup winner.
Finally, Columbian striker Duvan Zapata is set to sign for West Ham. The Hammers have applied for a work permit, with the deal in the region of £8million.
