Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The winners of EarthCam's most interesting webcams for 2009 were announced on December 18.

Viewers from around the world can tune in to watch the world flash by in High Definition in Times Square; see 360 degree views of London; watch the "Imagine Peace Tower" - Yoko Ono's artwork-tribute to John Lennon; or view the highest and lowest tides in the world rise and fall in Nova Scotia; on some of the most interesting webcams in the world.

"'Traveling' the world via live webcams and experiencing the unique creativity of individuals is always exciting. We honor our winners annually for their discovery and use of new technology, eye-catching design and their ability to entertain and educate millions," said Brian Cury, CEO and founder of EarthCam. "We are pleased to recognize and celebrate their achievements. They give us a look into a world we may otherwise not experience."

Winners were picked from more than 100 semi-finalists by a jury of EarthCam staff and VIP judges that included movie and TV stars, producers and editors.
