Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s been a big year for Neighbours. The much-loved Australian soap opera turned thirty in March, celebrating with a number of special episodes featuring former cast members, as well as a 90-minute special Neighbours 30th: The Stars Reunite programme, which looked back at the show’s success.
Now, for the first time ever, fans of the soap will be able to win the chance to spend the night on the set of Ramsay Street, which is actually located in the pretty Melbourne suburb of Forest Hill.
The winners of the competition, which is being run by Airbnb, will be invited to stay on the famous street for one night, hosted by actors Alan Fletcher and Chris Milligan, who play Karl Kennedy and Kyle Canning.
They will visit Harold’s store, enjoy a tipple at The Waterhole, and have dinner with Fletcher and Milligan at the Willis family home, before bedding down in an Airbnb listing on Ramsay Street itself.
The fans will also be treated to breakfast and lunch with the cast and crew, as well as an exclusive tour of all of the Neighbours’ sets.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for guests to be hosted on the set of Ramsay Street for the first time ever,” said Fletcher.
“A sleepover on the set is a truly unique experience, where guests will see what goes on behind the scenes, meet their favourite stars and see where all the drama unfolds.”
While this is the first time viewers will be able to spend a night on set, fans can already enjoy tours of both the Neighbours’ set and Ramsay Street. Bunyip Tours (00 61 3 9650 9680; bunyiptours.com) offers daily tours of the from A$55 (£28).
Fletcher also hosts Neighbours Nights at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow in the nearby seaside suburb of St Kilda, performing with his band and acting as question-master for the Neighbours-themed quiz.
To be in with a chance of winning, fans must explain why they would like to spend a night on Ramsay Street in 25 words or less via Airbnb's website before August 28.
Competition winners will also get return flights to Melbourne with five nights' accommodation provided by Airbnb, as well as one night's stay on the Neighbours set on September 7.
