Doctor Who smashes through the Shard to introduce the Spoonheads and Ice Warriors

The Shard might have only transformed London's skyline last year, and its viewing platform only opened to the public a fortnight ago, but it has already been featured (and shattered, in fact) in an episode of Doctor Who.
Pictures released by the BBC show current Time Lord Matt Smith speeding down the iconic glass skyskraper in the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who.
The Gallifreyan and his latest assistant, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, can be seen smashing their way down the Shard as they battle a new adversary, the Spoonheads.
They return to our screens next month in The Bells of St John, described as a "modern day urban thriller", in which the pair travel across London fighting the Spoonheads and discover something nasty exploiting the Wi-Fi systems in the city.
The new series will also see the return of Richard E Grant following his turn as the villainous Doctor Simeon in the Christmas Special. The drama will take place both in the sky and under the sea, will involve Cybermen and new Ice Warriors.
Executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat promised the 50th year of Doctor Who would "the most exciting" yet, saying that "the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed" during the finale.
"It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on. We're up in the sky and under the sea," Moffat said.
"We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the Tardis. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed. If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway."
