The UN climate conference in Copenhagen that will frame a new deal for tackling global warming and its impacts beyond 2012 brings the Danish capital in the limelight with many government leaders and NGOs taking part in the conference in December. Many cultural events are organized in parallel in Copenhagen like exhibitions entitled 100 Places to Remember Before They Disappear, Nature Strikes Back, or the display of the laureates of the Earth Journalism Awards, among many events.

Turner Prize winner announced

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award given to a British artist under the age of 50. One of four shortlisted artists for 2009 will be awarded the prestigious Turner Prize on December 7. Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright are the hopeful candidates for this year's award - one of whom will be selected for the prize by judges Mariella Frostrup, Charles Esche, Jonathan Jones and Andrea Schlieker. A selection of works created by the artists is on show at the Tate Britain until January 3, 2010.

Surfing: Billabong Pipeline Masters

The last competitive event in the 2009 ASP World Tour is also the decider in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, three concurrent surfing Hawaiian tournaments. Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson battle for wave riding legend Kelly Slater's World Tour title, while 21-year old Australian Stephanie 'Happy' Gilmore is the current women's champ.

Nobel Prizes ceremonies and concert

On December 10, Nobel Prize laureates in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economics are being honored during their award ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall in Sweden, and the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony takes place in the Oslo City Hall, Norway, with this year's laureate, US President Barak Obama. The next day, a Nobel Peace Prize concert is scheduled in Oslo, Norway, hosted by American actor Will Smith.

Contestants will gather from all around the world to snatch current Miss World, Russian Ksenia Sukhinova's crown. This longest-running beauty pageant (created in 1951) is only rivalled by the Miss Universe and Miss Earth contests.

Gabriel Orozco

The works of Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco will be displayed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York from December 13, 2009 to March 1, 2010. The artist moves freely between disciplines making art in the fields of sculpture, installation, drawing and painting. Orozco is known for his interest in the everyday object as art and his works often lie in the space between reality and artistic creation. The exhibition will travel to the Kunstmuseum Basel, the national modern art musem Centre Pompidou, Paris before being shown at the Tate Modern, London.
