Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Independent’s Happy List is all about celebrating the people who help spread joy by doing brilliant things that make a difference.

Now in its tenth year, the Happy List is a collection of inspirational heroes and heroines whose kindness, courage and selflessness make Britain a better place to live. Nominations for 2018’s List are now open here until Monday 6 August.

To spread some happiness of our own, The Independent’s Happy List is giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to Green Man festival, held between 16 - 19 August in Wales’ Brecon Beacons. To be in with a chance of winning, simply nominate someone who deserves to be on this year’s Happy List by clicking here.

More than just a music festival, Green Man’s majestic location and welcoming vibe sets it apart from others. As well as world class headliners Fleet Foxes,The War of Drugs and John Grant, the site offers 10 enchanting areas to explore, offering everything from late-night revelry to a relaxing soak in an outdoor hot tub, plus hundreds of independently brewed Welsh beers.

Nominations for the Happy List are open to anyone in the UK. Simply use this nomination form to tell us about someone who deserves to be on this year’s List by Monday 6 August. It can be anyone who does good for others without thought of personal gain, such as charity fundraisers, foster parents, environmental campaigners or youth mentors. Previous years have celebrated a lollypop lady who brought cheer to school children for more than four decades, a couple who bought a house for refugees, and Britain’s longest-serving barmaid.

The Happy List was founded in 2008 as an antidote to the tedious lists that celebrate wealth and big bank balances. Instead, it honours the Great Britons doing extraordinary things for others. The List relies on you, the readers of the Independent, to nominate people who may otherwise go unnoticed and unrewarded.
