Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Although he’s been blind for most of his life, nine year-old Robbie Lee from Boston Spa is still able to enjoy cycling with the help of best friend Edward Gaunt.
Edward guides Robbie with his voice, “talking to him to make sure he doesn’t crash!” Blind due to complications from brain cancer early in life, Robbie is a frequent face at the Boston Spa Cycling Club, which is run by Edward’s mother, Angela Gaunt.
“Seeing Robbie go from strength to strength, year after year, has been truly inspirational,” she said. The club, which Angela founded in 2014, provides basic bicycle training to primary school-aged children. Angela is always looking for volunteers to teach more enthusiastic young cyclers, whether or not they are disabled.
You can find out more about by searching for Boston Spa Cycling Club on Facebook.
To support other children who are suffering with cancer, Robbie’s parents encourage you to look into Candlelighters, www.candlelighters.org.uk
