From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tonight marks the second-ever annual The Game Awards, a glamourous night where the year’s best games are commemorated, and the industry looks forward to 2016 and beyond with some new trailers and announcements of never-before-seen games.

For those unfamiliar with The Game Awards, below is a complete breakdown of what it is, and what to expect from the show.

What are The Game Awards?

The Game Awards are an annual awards show to celebrate the best video games of the year. They are the spiritual successor to the Spike Awards, and hosted by producer and popular gaming personality Geoff Keighley.

This will be the second year of The Game Awards, and the event has become known for debut trailers of previously-unannounced games from leading developers and publishers.

Many leading figures in the game industry and popular celebrities are also scheduled to make an appearance during the ceremony, including Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, Xbox boss Phil Spencer and late night presenter Conan O’Brian.

What time does it start?

The Game Awards start at 6pm PT/9pm ET, 2am UK.

Where can I watch it?

The Game Awards is available to be streamed directly from the show’s official Twitch and YouTube channels as well as via your games console or Steam.

What will be shown?

Geoff Keighley recently tweeted there will 10 world premieres of brand new games:

Shaquille O’Neal has also teased a surprised announcement during the show. For those too young to remember, the former Miami Heat center was the cover star of “Shaq-Fu” on the SNES.

The developers behind Goat Simulator, Coffee Stain Studios, have also hinted at an appearance, as well as brand new gameplay footage from the hotly-anticipated Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break.

There’ll be plenty of announcements and trailers over the course of the night, with the show promising to deliver many exciting reveals.
