Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s been a sleepy time for the UK’s all formats games chart with new releases few and far between and the usual suspects jostling for position in top 10 and top 40 alike. Thankfully the release of Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs and Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. 2 has acted as an alarm call meaning we have brand new titles filling the chart’s top spots.

Elsewhere much remains the same with the Olympic hangover still lingering and Lego titles still selling well with both Lego Batman 2 and Lego Harry Potter in the ten highest selling games of the week. Predictions for next week: expect Darksiders 2 to be giving Sleeping Dogs a fight for number one.

Top 40 Entertainment Software (All Prices), Week Ending 18 August 2012:

1 – SLEEPING DOGS – SQUARE ENIX
2 – NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 – NINTENDO
3 – LONDON 2012: THE OFFICIAL VIDEO GAME – SEGA
4 – LEGO BATMAN 2: DC SUPER HEROES – WARNER BROS.
5 – MARIO & SONIC LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES – SEGA
6 – BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY – WARNER BROS.
7 – THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN – ACTIVISION
8 – TOM CLANCY’S GHOST RECON: FUTURE SOLDIER – UBISOFT
9 – DEAD ISLAND GOTY EDITION – KOCH MEDIA
10 – LEGO HARRY POTTER: YEARS 5-7 – WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE
