From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Robin Williams’ passion for video games was well known (why do you think he named his daughter Zelda?) and now it seems the gaming community is honouring one of their own, with Williams set to appear as a character in World of Warcraft.

Three NPCs named “Robin <The Entertainer>” have been uncovered in the game’s as-yet-unplayable code, with one of the trio appearing as a blue-coloured djinn – no doubt a reference to Williams’ role as the genie in Aladdin.

WoW fans started petitioning the game’s makers to memorialize Williams soon after his death on 11 August, with one employee responding on Twitter that they’d seen it and were “taking care of it”. The game’s official Twitter account later confirmed this with the following tweet:

The character data, uncovered by fan site WOWhead, is only accessible in its raw form at the moment, and it’s thought the Robin NPCs will appear in game with an upcoming patch for the Warlords of Draenor expansion.

Alongside the genie tribute, two other NPCs – a male and female human – have also been found bearing the same name and title. Fans have speculated that the female NPC could be a reference to Williams’ character in Mrs Doubtfire while the male model might take after Williams’ break-out role as the alien Mork.
