The price of a subscription to PlayStation’s online service is about to be increased.
Prices are set to go up from September, but it hasn’t made clear by exactly how much.
PlayStation Plus is Sony’s premium online service, required to play multiplayer online as well as giving access to a downloadable games library.
Sony said that the price would go up “in line with market conditions” — and left the way for yet more price increases after that.
The company said in a statement: “We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content.
“From 1st September 2015 we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PS Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.”
At the moment, one month of PlayStation Plus costs £5.49 and three is £11.99. The £39.99 annual subscription will be unchanged.
Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold, which is the equivalent service on its console, already costs slightly more. A one month subscription is £5.99, and three months costs £14.99.
