Mac-heads have always drawn the short straw when it comes to gaming. True, their hardware is slinky, sexy and sophisticated but PC owners have had the upper hand when it comes to decent titles to play on their machines.
But from next month, online content delivery service Steam (the so-called iTunes for PCgames, which boasts something like 70 per cent of the digital game download market) is coming to Apple computers. The developer Valve, the company behind Steam, famous for its ‘Left 4 Dead’ and ‘Portal’ titles, will welcome Mac owners to the service with its first simultaneous Mac/PC launch, ‘Portal 2’, as well as access to the 1,000 games already available. Just how dedicated Mac addicts will get on with the 25 million PC gamers already signed up remains to be seen.
