Inexplicable yet compelling, Final Fantasy XIII’s plot is only understood by experiencing it; put briefly, events revolve around Lightning, an ex-soldier tasked with saving the worlds of Cocoon and Pulse. Combat is a hectically paced blend of tactics and timing – maybe not quitewhat die-hard fans were expecting but still an accessible and graphically stunning maelstrom of action. Final Fantasy games pride themselves on being distinct entities, each a unique undertaking within the series. FFXIII sustains that legacy, and while some critics have questioned the game’s admitted linearity, they have perhaps overlooked its breathtaking scope and beauty.
