Your support makes all the difference.The DS is the poor relation of the console world when it comes to racing games, but this game works by letting you create your own race tracks.
Developers don’t seem as keen to work on driving titles for Nintendo’s handheld and, as a result, a decent DS racer is hard to find. What makes Race Driver: Create & Race work is that it manages to retain the feeling of the Race Driver series while using the DS touch-screen and stylus to excellent effect.
The best bit of the game is given away in the title – players can create their own racetracks by clicking and dragging sections of track from a library of straights and curves, or they can doodle a track using the touch-screen to make a unique circuit.
When it comes to the driving itself, the game has a very strong arcade flavour and manages to steer well clear of just being a po-faced driving simulator. The only downside is that the graphics aren’t really up to much; however, considering the size of the DS and that the game is crammed with features such as local and online play plus great handling, this really is a top title.
