Battlefield V release date delayed as game looks to avoid Red Dead 2 and Call of Duty

Battlefield V is being delayed, and won't come out until 20 November.

Developer DICE said that the extra time would allow the game to be improved, and for late feedback to be integrated within the game.

But rumours have swirled around other problems for the release. The game was running right into the launch date of the new Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption 2, a fact that had been blamed for reported low sales of the second world war game.

Adjusting the release date will allow Battlefield V to avoid having the limelight stolen by those other titles, as well as allowing extra time for work.

DICE said that it had received considerable feedback during the early releases of Battlefield V, and that it expected the way the game played to change over time. Those changes will include improvements to the gameplay tempo and other alterations to the game, it said.

"And that’s why we’re moving our launch date," wrote Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of DICE. "We’re going to take the time to continue to make some final adjustments to core gameplay, and to ensure we really deliver on the potential of Tides of War.

"We know moving the launch date means that we all have to wait a little longer. But we’re going to take our time to make sure we get it right."

Battlefield V has already been shown off in closed alphas and at Gamescom and E3, where it received the best multiplayer game award at both shows.

Players will now get to take part in an open beta that begins on 6 September. Some of the new changes will be included in that version of the game, DICE said.
